Using infrared technology the TAT-2000C Thermometer detects body heat at the temporal artery in the forehead. Oral temperature is often variable, affected by many factors, and even rectal temperature can be inaccurate. Additionally, both these methods are invasive and can aggravate the patient, especially if that patient is an infant or small child. In contrast, the Exergen Temporal Thermometer is completely non-invasive and requires only a brief moment of gentle contact to obtain a reading.
